How to use Protect PDF

Add an open password so only the people you choose can read the document. The file is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest standard PDF encryption, without leaving your device.

  1. Open the PDF you want to protect.

  2. Choose a strong password and, if you like, restrict printing, copying or editing.

  3. Download the encrypted PDF and share the password separately.

Private by design

Your files are opened and processed inside this browser tab. They are never uploaded to a server.

How it works

Questions

How strong is the encryption?

AES-256 is used by default. AES-128 is available for very old readers.

Are printing and copying restrictions guaranteed?

They are stored in the file and respected by most readers, but enforcement depends on the reader. The open password is what keeps the content private.

What if I forget the password?

It cannot be recovered. Keep the unprotected original somewhere safe.

Is my password stored?

No. It is used once in your browser to encrypt the file and is never saved or sent.
