Frequently asked questions

Answers about privacy, supported files, devices and how the tools work.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Files are opened with your browser’s file access and processed in memory on your device. The website only delivers the application code and the processing engines. Your documents are not transferred to us or anyone else.

Is it free? Are there limits?

All tools are free to use, without an account and without daily task limits. The only practical limit is the memory and speed of your device, which matters for very large files.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The interface is designed for touch, and the scanner uses your phone camera directly in the browser. It works in Safari on iPhone and in Chrome on Android.

Can I use it offline?

After your first visit you can install the site as an app. The application is then available without a connection. Text recognition languages are downloaded the first time you use them.

Is the redaction really permanent?

Yes. Redacted pages are rebuilt so the hidden content is removed from the file, not just covered with a black box. Text outside the redacted areas is kept searchable.

Which languages can text recognition read?

English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Japanese. You can combine several languages for mixed documents.

Why is a large file slow?

Everything is processed on your device, so speed depends on its processor and memory. For very large documents, close other tabs and keep the page in the foreground.

Does {name} keep my signature or passwords?

No. Signatures and passwords exist only in memory while the tab is open. They are not saved to your browser storage or sent anywhere.

Can I edit the existing text of a PDF?

You can replace existing text: the original words are covered and new text is placed on top in a matching size. The original text remains in the file underneath. To remove it permanently, use Redact PDF.

Which browsers are supported?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, Safari on iOS 16.4 and later, and Chrome on Android. The camera scanner requires a secure (HTTPS) connection.

Do you use analytics?

If analytics are enabled, they only count page views and which tools are opened. File names, contents, extracted text, passwords and signatures are never included.

What happens when I close the tab?

Everything is gone. Documents, previews and temporary data exist only in the memory of that tab. Download your results before closing it.
