How to use Compare PDF

Find what changed between two versions of a contract, report or drawing. Pages are compared visually and by their text, so you can spot both moved graphics and edited words.

  1. Open the original and the revised PDF.

  2. Browse the pages side by side, in overlay, or as a text comparison.

  3. Download a summary report if you need one.

How it works

Questions

How are differences detected?

Each pair of pages is rendered at the same scale and compared pixel by pixel, with a tolerance for tiny rendering differences. The extracted text is also compared word by word.

Does it work with scanned documents?

The visual comparison works with scans. The text comparison needs real text, so run OCR first for scanned files.

What if pages were added or removed?

Pages are compared in order and extra pages are marked as added or removed. If many pages shifted, the comparison of later pages shows more changes.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Both documents are compared in your browser.
